The Process: How Students Are Supported
The National Education Alliance Counseling Center is an advocate for students, guiding them to degree completion while saving them time and money. Support is provided to students from exploration to graduation, a process that begins when the application for assistance is submitted and ends with the student donning a cap and gown and walking down the aisle to receive their degree.
There are four phases to the process
Registration Process
During the Registration Process the student submits the online application and will receive a Student Handbook. The Student Handbook provides detailed information on each step of this phase. The National Education Alliance Counseling Center will contact the student and conduct an interview, inquiring of the student's needs, goals and desires, as well as helping identify each potential source of college credit that the student has earned in the past.
Credits Can Include
- College courses taken from accredited colleges and universities in the past
- College credit-by-examination
- Credit for military training and experiences
- College credit for professional training completed at more than a thousand corporations and organizations
- College credit for professional certifications and licenses, and more!
An important part of this phase is that the student must submit supporting documentation for the credit discussed. The counselor will need these to consider the credit that will be presented to the participating colleges and universities.
Transcript Analysis
During the Transcript Analysis, the counselor will create an electronic education record for the student, a document called the Comprehensive Education Assessment, which identifies all of the credit that the student has earned in the past.
This record is then systematically streamed into the curricula of degrees from colleges and universities across the nation in our state-of-the-art degree exploration system.
How the Analysis Guides The Student
- Identifies the best options for the student to consider
- Determines the optimal application of the credit earned in the past based on the student's needs, goals, and desires
- Communicates the best options for consideration via e-mail to the student
- Schedules an appointment for the counselor to speak with the student.
Decision Making & Enrollment
Decision Making & Enrollment, is where the student goes over the degree plans with our counselor, comparing the differences in credit applied, course requirements remaining, costs, and other factors. When the student has made the decision as to which college or university he or she would like to attend (typically at a distance), our counselor will then electronically forward to the college or university selected the Assessment and Degree Plan for them to perform a courtesy, no cost pre-admission review. If the college or university identifies any changes that need to be made, our counselor will make the changes and inform the student. This lets the student know where he or she stands before making a commitment to attend the school.
Ongoing Support
Ongoing Support is where we provide a continuum of guidance to our students, all the way to graduation. The counselors at the college or university selected are ready to enroll students in their courses. However, we will continue to guide students to degree completion while saving them time and money.
